Dagestan: Trial Continues in Case of Police Officer who Beat Teenager

On May 25, 2012, a court hearing in the case of the beating of teenager Makhmud Akhmedov by a police officer from the Shamilsky police department, Magomed Magomedov, took place at the Shamilsky Regional Court (village of Khebda, Republic of Dagestan). Witness for the prosecution Musa Magomedovich Magomedov denied earlier testimony, according to which he had witnessed the defendant Magomed Magomedov hit the teenager in the office of the police officer Gamzat Nurudinov. Musa also stated that the investigator had questioned him at home. He had signed the statement without reading it. Musa stated that he had seen Makhmud in the duty office of the Shamilsky police department but did not see him beaten. [Read more]
