Memorial Human Rights Centre receives messages from various republics of North Caucuses informing about discrimination, oppression, humiliation, beating and even murdering of women done upon the pretext of keeping up local traditions. It takes particularly tragic forms in Chechnya where such crimes are often carried out by the authority representatives or upon their approval. Even the steps that seem to be directed at protecting women paradoxically turn to tragedy.
