The purpose of this website is to provide information about human rights in Russia in the English language.

Our website publishes:

- weekly and monthly reviews of developments in human rights in Russia.

- an expanding wealth of materials about Russia’s human rights organizations.

- a wide range of news about the international context of human rights in Russia, including updates on the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights and developments in UN bodies.

- the views of leading international human rights groups about the situation in Russia, such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.

- links to world media coverage of developments in Russia.

We also publish:
- translations of Russia's premier human rights website, HRO.org. These materials are also published on our dedicated website HRO.org in English.

- translations from the project by the Agora Human Rights Association to protect freedom of the Internet in Russia. These materials are also available on our dedicated website Internet Freedom in Russia.

Rights in Russia was established in the United Kingdom on 19 January 2010, the first anniversary of the killings in Moscow of human rights lawyer Stanislav Markelov and journalist Anastasia Baburova, as a charitable organization with the mission to provide information about human rights in Russia in the English language and to support in other appropriate ways the work of human rights organizations based in the Russian Federation (with HM Revenue & Customs Charity No. XT25453).

The trustees of Rights in Russia are Megan Bick, Simon Cosgrove (chair), John Crowfoot, Masha Karp, Annabelle Poole, Julia Sherwood and Ekaterina Shemelina. Rights in Russia has an Advisory Council consisting of an International Advisory Committee and a Russia Advisory Committee.

Members of the
Russia Advisory Committee are prominent Russian human rights defenders: Ashot Airapetyan, Ludmila Alekseeva, Galina Arapova, Aleksei Babii, Andrei Blinushov, Pavel Chikov, Yury Dzhibladze, Svetlana Gannushkina, Elena Grishina, Maria Kanevskaya, Sergei Lukashevsky, Dmitry Makarov, Karinna Moskalenko, Sergei Nikitin, Anastasia Nikintina, Sergei Poduzov, Lev Ponomarev, Yulia Sereda, Olga Sadovskaya, Aleksandr Sungurov, Natalia Taubina, Aleksandr Verkhovsky and Andrei Yurov.

Members of the
International Advisory Committee
are well-known experts on Russia and human rights in Russia: Bill Bowring, Robert Chandler, Martin Dewhirst, Mary McAuley, Peter Reddaway, Susan Richards, Jens Siegert, Andreas Umland and Evgeny Zakharov.
